  BolZel-02.59.06-72.jpg -  Boletus  sp., perhaps  Boletus zelleri  (CN: Zeller's Bolete) ID cannot be confirmed from photos. According to mushroom maven Debbie Viess, it is one of a group of closely related edible species that have cracked caps and reddish stipes; microscopy is sometimes necessary to get it to sp.   Boletus/Xerocomus/Boletellus chrysenteron/ truncatus/ zelleri  is the long name. It/they have gone thru at least three genus changes alone in the past several years. It is Boletus in Arora's MDM.  Found on Grand View near Live Oak, Oakland, CA on Dec. 3, 2013.  Photo taken by Gillian Servais who says cap was aout 5" wide.
